Of the nanomaterials, nanocrystals, nanowires and nanotubes comprise three major categories, the last two being one-dimensional. Several methods have been developed for synthesizing these materials and a range of interesting properties have been found. Typical properties of carbon nanotubes are a high mechanical strength, good electrical and thermal conductivity, and excellent electron emission characteristics. This monograph provides an up-to-date survey of various aspects of carbon nanotubes, inorganic nanotubes and nanowires, including synthesis, characterization, properties and applications. The emphasis is more on the chemical aspects of nanotubes and nanowires. |
