Time relaxation and hysteresis are common strongly nonlinear phenomena that occur in many industrial, physical and economic systems. Often these two types of phenomena manifest themselves at different stages of the same or similar processes. This book is based on the results of a workshop on relaxation oscillations and hysteresis, held in Cork in 2002. It brought together experts in applied problems on both phenomena. They discussed important problems in the area, such as reacting systems, semiconductor lasers, shock phenomena in economic modelling, and fluid mechanics, all with an emphasis on hysteresis and singular perturbations. |
