This student textbook (A level Technology, civil engineering degree courses, ONC, OND etc.) puts forward the basic principles of structures. The author begins by introducing the fundamental concepts and shows how they can be used, mathematically, to solve simple structural problems. He goes on to look at stability and discusses how to ensure that a structure is stable. The following chapters deal with specific aspects of pin-jointed frames. There are also chapters on: shear force and bending moment diagrams, stress, structural materials, structural design, and the conceptual design of structures and the calculation of loads. |
