Review: Problems encountered while working on an international construction project seldom conform to the problems found in standard textbooks. Often the project is not proceeding under a FIDIC or other standard form of contract. The project may not involve the standard ‘four walls and a roof’ that is found in referenced case studies and may be a highly complex building situated far from anywhere. This book aims to provide advice to meet such circumstances. It provides many case histories of projects in the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australasia, South Africa, Canada and the USA. Topics are organised in alphabetical order (‘Acceleration: Directed and Constructive’ to ‘Without Prejudice’), giving current interpretations under Common Law, Civil Code rules and customary trade and industrial practices as well as clarifying terms and points of law. Appendices provide useful forms and information: a glossary of terms; international legal systems; forms for the contractors’ pre-tender site reviews, and information confirmation; a daywork record sheet; an overage, shortage and damage report; a monthly progress report format; a change order proposal; a subcontractor take-over certificate; a subcontract close-out checklist; a subcontract final completion certificate; and law report abbreviations and a table of cases.
