This book gives a brief historical perspective of deterministic modelling of human populations and looks at pair-formation (marriage) and two-sex models. Several models are described and the authors examine which marriage choices might be best for a particular population (the USA). They also provide results of model analysis, giving a review of mathematical demography and numerical methods. Simulation results are compared with real demographic data to illustrate difficulties that may occur with the availability of data. The authors show that mathematical demography provides reasonable quantitative and qualitative estimates. |
