Review: Most scientific experiments can be broken down into three stages: planning the experiment; implementing it; and analysis and interpretation. These three stages make up the experimental design process. A formulation is a mixture of two or more components. Increasing one component decreases the proportions of the others. Therefore in a mixture the responses are related to the component proportions. This book describes a systematic methodology for mixing products, such as foods, personal-care products, beverages, and cleaning agents, so that they perform according to the required goals. The authors discuss how to design experiments and interpret results for mixtures, and give examples over a wide range of fields. The book is intended for senior formulators in industry as well as beginning graduate students in statistics.
