In spite of the promising contribution of genetic modification of plants, criticisms have been levied by non-governmental organisations, activist groups, politicians and individuals. This book provides a critical overview of the genetically modified organisms (GMO) debate and discusses the key issues. The authors approach the subject from the viewpoint of GMO research in a societal setting, showing the intricacies and interdependencies of sciences, risk management, decision making, stakeholders and social responsibilities. The CD contains a film, Genes on the Menu, that provides a primer for the reader, discussing whether we need GM foods and who decides they really are safe. |
