Surveillance programmes, including monitoring, are important elements in ensuring the safety of operating and closed waste disposal facilities that are situated near the ground surface. In general, the waste disposed of in such facilities contains short-lived radionuclides and low concentrations of long-lived radionuclides. This Safety Report discusses the objectives of surveillance and monitoring during the pre-operational, operational, and post-operational phases and provides advice on good practice in the operation of such programmes, based on the experience of IAEA Member States. |
