Review: These are the proceedings of the International Seminar on Geotechnics in Pavement and Railway Design and Construction. The seminar covered four topics: the geotechnical aspects of rail track and pavement foundation layers; earth structures in pavement and railway construction; the strengthening and reinforcing pavements and rail tracks; and subsurface sensing for diagnosis of the condition of transportation infrastructure. These included recent developments relating to laboratory and field geomaterials characterization (soil, granular base materials, ballast and geocomposites), as well as modelling, design and maintenance for road and rail track, and quality control during construction (embankments and road layers), described with an emphasis on the geotechnical aspects.
