Review: This book looks at the airport as a multi-modal passenger terminal, with road and rail links. Good design can help enhance passenger travel experience, providing ease of transport to passengers exposed to the contingencies of weather and congestion in an already overloaded system. Easy transfer between different modes of transport also enhances mobility. A real interchange points gives passengers a choice of modes. The author recognises the organic nature of modern technologically-derived buildings, classifying passenger terminal buildings as if they were bioforms, with integrated structures or linked or continuous forms. Integration is often only obtained by rebuilding and replacing old facililties. The book gives examples of design and construction and redevelopment projects.
