Radiopharmaceuticals that bind to central neural system receptors in vivo are potentially useful for understanding the pathophysiology of a number of neurological and psychiatric disorders, their diagnosis and treatment. The ideal radioisotope for single photon emission computerized tomography is 99mTc, due to its low cost per dose, availability through commercially available generator systems and physical decay characteristics. This book reports the results of research by the IAEA Coordinated Research Project into development of agents for imaging central neural system receptors based on 99mTc. |
