This book covers the buying and maintenance of telescopes and accessories, both old and new. The first half of the book describes the equipment. It begins by describing the working and availability of new telescopes and gives guidance on which telescope to buy. It goes on to give advice on buying second-hand equipment, pointing out what to look for and where to buy it. The second half of the book covers care and maintenance with chapters on: lens optics; figured mirrors and flats; optical tube features; mounts and tripods; collimation and adjustment techniques; protection, refinishing and surface treatments; and storage. The last chapters give some equipment projects and tips. Appendices describe the tools and materials that you need and give some practical information and formulae. |
