This textbook describes both he physic-chemical make up of the soil and the life, especially the microfauna and flora, in the soil. the authors, a botanist, microbiologist and a zoologist, have taken an ecological holistic point of view, considering the soil as an ecological system with numerous functions. They aim to provide a concise coherent clarification of the range of organisms that influence the growth of plants and their activities, and the consequences of such organisms functioning in the soil. The book has two parts: the first part gives the fundamentals of soil science – the role of living organisms, the importance of soil organisms etc. the second part has eleven themed chapters covering topics such as: ecological niches, enzymology, soil annexes, food webs. |
