The New Amateur Astronomer reflects the change in technology that has taken place in the last ten years. Astronomers can now observe the skies on a PC monitor, using a powerful remote-control telescope and charge-couple device (CCD) camera. Within minutes of capturing an image, it can be emailed to fellow observers worldwide or a snapshot CCD images can be taken. In this book the author explains the available equipment: telescopes; mountings; digicams; CCD cameras; and image-processing software. He then shows the possibilities that are open to amateurs and introduces some of them, their equipment, and their results. |
