This book is a companion to Risk Management and Error Reduction in Aviation Maintenance, which provided practical guidance to developing a sustainable safety culture for students and personnel. This book focuses on the application of human factors, with emphasis on data from NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) to illustrate how human factor principles and error reduction techniques should be applied to minimize error-inducing conditions in the future, and to minimize the impact of past errors. Evidence in ASRS reports establish that systematic problems, such as impractical maintenance procedures, inadequate training, and safety versus profit challenge, continue to contribute towards latent failures. This book provides specific guidance to help mechanics and managers to implement changes to mitigate these problems. |
