Review: Where health, safety or environmental risks are concerned, the method of communicating risk information is important. This book is for those who communicate such information in the USA. The book is divided into six parts. Part I gives the basic background and theories of risk communication. The next two parts explain how to plan a communication effort and give more detailed information on the different methods of communicating risks. Part IV describes how to evaluate risk communication efforts, including how to measure success. Part V discusses risk communication during and after an emergency, including a bioterrorism attack. The last part provides references and resources for further study. This latest edition updates current laws and approaches, and covers technology-assisted communication, stakeholder participation methods, dealing with the news media, and using images to convey risk information.
