Manfred Padberg has made fundamental contributions to both the theoretical and computational aspects of integer programming and combinatorial optimisation. To celebrate his 60th birthday and recognise his work, about 100 mathematicians from 20 countries gathered for a conference in Berlin in October 2001. These are 18 of the papers given at that conference. They present results that are close to Padberg’s research. They are grouped under the following topics: packing, stable sets and perfect graphs; polyhedral combinatorics; general polytopes; semidefinite programming; and computation. many of the papers set out to solve challenges that Padberg set out in his work. |
