This undergraduate textbook provides the reader with a basic knowledge of how each type of spectroscopy gives rise to a spectra, and how these spectra can be used to determine the structure of organic molecules. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). infrared (IR), and ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy and mass spectroscopy (MS) are all covered. All these techniques are brought together to illustrate how to go about the determination of the structure of an unknown organic compound in a logical manner. Spectra are provided to illustrate the points made. |
