This Safety Guide provides recommendations relating to the evaluation of the flood hazard for a nuclear power plant to be built on a coastal or river site so that hazardous phenomena associated with flooding events (both natural and human-induced) can be recognised. It also presents guidelines for the analysis and quantification of flood-induced effects in all the phases of the project: from site selections to the definition of the design basis and from the design measures for site protection and monitoring up to the periodic site review. Measures for protection of nuclear power plant sites against floods and the strategy for monitoring sites are also discussed. |
