This Guide provides recommendations and guidance on design for the protection of nuclear power plants from the effects of external events, i.e. events that originate either off the site, or within the boundaries of the site, but from sources unconnected with the operation of the plant, such as fuel depots of areas where hazardous materials are stored. Significant events, either as design basis external human induced events (aircraft crashes, explosions, release of hazardous or corrosive gases, vehicle collisions etc.), or design basis external natural events (severe weather conditions, floods, lightning, cyclones etc.), should be identified and selected in the preliminary phases of the site evaluation process. |
