Routine reviews of nuclear power plant operation (including modifications to hardware and procedures, significant events, operating experience, plant management and personnel competence) and special reviews following major events of safety significance are the primary means of safety verification. This guide provides recommendations and guidance on how to conduct a periodic safety review (PSR) for an existing nuclear power plant. PSRs are carried out regularly, typically every ten years. The Guide covers the rationale and objective of periodic safety reviews, the review strategy, safety factors in a periodic safety review, the roles and responsibilities of the operating organisation, the review procedure, the basis for the acceptability of continued plant operation, and post-review activities. |
