It is commonly believed that superconductivity cannot occur at room temperature (about 300K). Here Andrei Mourachkine shows that, under suitable conditions, superconductivity can occur above room temperature and he presents guidelines on how to synthesize a room-temperature superconductor. The first part of the book gives an overview of the basic properties of the superconducting state and the mechanisms of superconductivity in various compounds. The last three chapters discuss special cases: that Cooper-pairs exist above room temperature in organic materials; the onset of long-phase coherence in a room-temperature semiconductor; and materials that can superconduct above room temperature. |
