Under most environmental conditions, concrete is capable of providing protection for embedded steel for 50 years. Under aggressive conditions this may be far less. This reference book aims to provide the knowledge, tools, and methods to understand the phenomena of deterioration and to prevent or control them. In particular it deals with the chloride and carbonation induced corrosion of steel in concrete, although other types of corrosion are discussed. The book is divided into five parts: Properties of cementitious materials; Mechanisms of corrosion; Prevention; Diagnosis; and Repair. |
