This book is part of the series Tutorial Chemistry Texts and is about the physical chemistry of biological macromolecules and the techniques used to study them. The text is well illustrated with drawings, tables and graphs. Every chapter sets out its aims and presents worked problems with solutions. At the end of each chapter there is a summary, an additional list of problems, references and suggestions for further reading. The first chapter describes the main groups of macromolecules, together with some basic information about pH and buffers. Later chapters cover spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, hydrodynamics, thermodynamics and interactions, kinetics, chromatography and electrophoresis. The last chapter looks at the behaviour of single molecules. The book is suitable for all levels of undergraduate students in chemical or physical sciences. |
