This undergraduate textbook describes the processes that give rise to ore deposits round the world. The classification of mineral deposits in terms of process can be achieved in terms of rock associations, namely igneous, hydrothermal and sedimentary. These processes form the basis of this book. Professor Laurence Robb begins by describing the magmatic ore-forming processes and goes on to hydrothermal and sedimentary metallogenic (the genesis of ore deposits in relation to the global tectonic paradigm) environments, covering he entire gamut of mineral deposit types, including fossil fuels and supergene ores (mineralised by descending solutions). The last chapter relates metallogeny to global tectonics by examining the distribution of mineral deposits in space and time. |
