The authors of this book review the contribution of different wireless access technologies to the convergent world of the mobile and the Internet considering, in particular, how these different technologies can be confederated into a core, all-IP network. They also review the opportunities for opening up access to the telecommunications systems, via applications program interfaces (APIs), for third-party developers: mobile Web Services. The economic value created by mobile applications are then described, with an emphasis on the user interface as well as opportunities for video streaming. Regulatory issues are discussed, with a look at the history and future potential of mobility from a user perspective. |
