This comprehensive interdisciplinary reference book provides an account of high-energy charged-particle and photon interactions with matter, and covers radiation chemistry, photochemistry, radiation physics, radiation biochemistry, radiation biology, and applications to medical and engineering sciences, to radiation synthesis and processing and food irradiation. The physical and chemical principles involved in the applications are explained. Chapters 1-11 explore the fundamentals of radiation physics and radiation chemistry, chapters 12 and 13 deal with specific liquid systems, chapter 14 with LET effects, and chapters 15-18 with the biological and medical consequences of photon and charged-particle irradiation. Chapters 19-27 are mainly concerned with applications. The book is aimed at a broad range of advanced undergraduate students, postgraduates, scientists and engineers. |
