Review: This is a book for professional engineers who are interested in designing plate and shell structures. It could be used as a 2-timestre course. It covers the basic aspects of theories and gives examples of the design of components due to internal and external loads, as well as other loads such as wind and dead loads. The first half of the book covers the theory of plates: rectangular plates with various boundaries and loading conditions; uniform-thickness circular plates; the bending of plates; buckling theory of plates; and the vibration of plates. The second half of the book is dedicated to shell theory: membrane theory; bending of cylindrical shells; shallow shell theory; and the buckling of cylindrical and spherical shells.
