Adaptive statistical methods are statistical procedures that are modified, based on a preliminary inspection of data. The adaptive methods in this book can be used to produce adaptive tests of significance, adaptive confidence intervals, and adaptive estimates. They are presented for one-sample and two-sample tests, for one-way lay-outs, and for interaction effects in two-way designs. In addition, an adaptive test for a subset of coefficients in linear models is described. Basic adaptive tests are explained in the first few chapters, followed by a general approach to adaptive testing. The software that is needed to perform adaptive tests is described and included in the Appendix. Other chapters describe: adaptive testing for paired data, adaptive confidence intervals, an adaptive estimator for the regression parameters in the linear model; and some important adaptive methods. |
