Review: The 1998 UK transport White Paper ‘A new deal for transport’ and the subsequent Transport Acts have defined the future direction of national government. A key failure of policy making in recent years has been the lack of integrated decision-making and policy across the sectors. This edited volume investigates the policy statements and the practical realities of the new transport environment. It reflects the policy issues that have been raised in the new transport policy and decision-making with regard to the implementation of an integrated transport policy. It also looks at the prospects for the future of sustainable transport and the integrating of transport policy with other areas of public policy in the next ten to twenty years. The book is divided into two: the first part looks at the policy areas with which transport is now seeking to engage, such as health benefits, the environment, employment and social policy. The second part focuses on patterns of governance and regulation.
