Review: The main focus of this book is to describe recent progress in our understanding of the importance of nitric oxide in mammalian physiology: for example, in the control of dilation of blood vessels. Other roles of this molecule, from its participation in the nitrogen cycle to its presence in car exhaust fumes and photochemical smog, are also discussed. The book will be of wide interest. General readers will find it very approachable, with the possible exception of a few of the more technical chapters. A helpful glossary of technical terms is provided. The book is particularly aimed at bioorganic and bioinorganic chemists and biological scientists.
