This is the first of three volumes that give a comprehensive review of experiments in very strong magnetic fields that can only be generated with special magnetics. This volume covers all aspects of generating magnetic fields for laboratory experiments, and the specific experimental techniques that have been developed for experiments with strong magnetic fields, in particular with pulsed fields. It is entirely devoted to the technology of laboratory magnets permanent, superconducting; high-powered water-cooled and hybrid; and pulsed magnets, both non-destructive and destructive (megagauss fields). The other two volumes contain reviews of the different areas of research where strong magnetic fields are an essential research tool. |
