This book provides an account both of the general principles of clinical pharmacology, and of how they are applied in the management of common clinical conditions. This new edition, published four years after the last one, reflects how the rapid expansion of understanding of the processes involved in disease' particularly at molecular level, has allowed new therapeutic possibilities. The rapidly-changing fields of HIV and biotechnology drugs are included. The first section of the book deals with general principles, including pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and the various factors that modify drug disposition and drug interactions. The second part addresses the treatment of common diseases of major organ systems (nervous, cardiovascular etc.) and of diseases which influence multiple systems (infectious diseases, cancer, clinical toxicology, immune disorders etc.). |
