This is the largest compilation of astronomy quotations published to date. It was designed for the general reader as well as the experienced scientist, with quotations that lead to an accurate picture of what astronomy is as well as those that delve into more complex topics. The entries are by topic (from Accuracy to Writing). Examples of entries include: ‘the tube of Newton’s first telescope…was made from the cover of an old book a little glass at one end of the tube and a huge brain at the other’ (Maria Mitchell). ‘We can only see the universe by the impressions of our senses reflecting indirectly the things of reality’ (Albert Einstein). |
