Review: This book, which complements the author’s longer Iterative Methods for Solving Linear and Nonlinear Equations , shows, using algorithms and pseudocode, in MATLAB®, and with a number of examples, how to choose an appropriate Newton-type method for a given problem and write an efficient solver or apply one written by somebody else. The author gives guides on to how to trouble-shoot the major algorithms, their most common modes of failure, and the probable causes of such failures. Worked examples, which are available on the SIAM website, in pseudocode are included and a collection of MATLAB codes are given to enable readers to experiment with the algorithms and implement them in other languages.
