This revised textbook gives an account of what has been learned about the structure and function of human memory from laboratory-based studies. It illustrates how theories are developed and tested and describes the relationship between theory development and experimental data. Studies of the memory performance of amnesic patients investigate whether we can analyse the memory deficit observed and how it could be explained. The author has updated his 1990 edition by including the role of consciousness in learning and memory with extra chapters on: consciousness, implicit learning and recollection and implicit memory. |
