Henry Darcy (1803–1858) is credited with in venting the modern Pitot tube, was the first researcher to suspect the existence of the boundary layer in fluid flow, contributed to the Darcy–Weisbach equation for pipe flow resistance, made major contributions to open channel flow research, provided the first quantitative measurements of artesian well flow, and developed Darcy’s law for flow in porous media. To celebrate the 200th anniversary of his birth, this book provides a collection of seven papers describing his achievements and legacy, including a paper (in French and English), contributed by his descendent, Henry Darcy, giving a more personal view of Darcy’s life and family. |
