Before performing complex experiments in the lab, computer simulations must be carried out. Most of the models behind these simulations are based on partial differential equations (PDEs). The first step towards computer simulation is the discretization of the PDE model. This tutorial is an introduction to the basic concepts of solving PDEs using parallel numerical methods. It provides the knowledge to understand, develop and implement parallel and solution techniques and some understanding of parallel computers, parallel programming, and the run-time behaviour of parallel algorithms. The practical course for the tutorial can be downloaded from the Internet at the address provided in the book. |
