This technical document comprises the papers prepared for the Co-ordinated research Project, whose objective was to make recommendations to increase crop production through better management of soil organic matter and nutrient inputs. The 16 papers are from participants who looked at various agro-ecological regions under several cropping systems. Papers included: recycling of crop residues; a model to define the quantity and dynamic of N application; fertiliser N recovery; soil organic carbon maintenance; crops of South Viet Nam straw incorporation and N losses; the sugarcane system of Brazil; composting rice-straw; wheatpeanut rotation system; a cornmung bean cropping system; and production and environmental conservation in Chinese rice fields. |
