Our surroundings are full of oscillating objects that produce rhythms: violins in an orchestra, crickets’ chirps etc. These objects interact with each other and the adjustment of their rhythms because of the interaction is the essence of synchronization. This book looks at the history of the study of synchronization and begins by simply describing what it is in terms of oscillating objects and the adjustment of their rhythms. The synchronization phenomena are described by the use of experiments and observations. The second part of the book takes a quantitative look at the subject, describing phase locking and frequency entrainment. The last part describes synchronization of chaotic systems. |
