Here Jon Erikson starts with a discussion on the origin of the solar system, the Sun and planets and the role of these planetismals in the Earth’s formation. He examines the importance of impact of meteorites and comets in the first 500 years of the Earth’s history and examines the impact craters on other planets in the solar system and the effect of impacts on global changes. The last couple of chapters look at the possibility and consequences of a large meteorite or comet hitting the Earth and the consequences of such a collision. Erickson also looks at the possible defences that humans may have against any such impacts. |
