Review: This book, like the others in this series on carbon, provides short tutorial articles, each giving a comprehensive study of a particular topic in the field of advanced composite materials. The first part looks at carbon fibres, the effect of processing on their structure and properties, and their electronic and thermal properties. Part II deals with both traditional and novel chemical vapour deposition and chemical vapour infiltration processes. The last part covers the properties of matrices and composites: the structure of pyrocarbons; the role of chemistry in advances carbon-based composites; and carbon– cement composites.
