Most spillways consist of some sort of weir. These are usually placed at right angles to the direction of flow. The most significant parameters are the height relative to the upstream depth, the crest shape, and the crest length. The last is the most important. This book describes the theory of labyrinth weirs and the factors that affect their discharge characteristics. It gives the most common design curves and recommends a single design curve for future use. The design of the weir is discussed in detail, enabling the reader to produce the optimum design to meet specific hyrogeological criteria and predict prototype performance. Several prototype labyrinth spillway configurations are included as examples. |
