For almost 50 years, the history of the Manhattan Project and the Hanford Site’s role in it and the Cold War have been almost unknown as the facilities were labelled ‘classified’ by the government. Now that the Cold war has ended, the history can be made public. The Richlands Operations Office of the US DOE conducted a four-year project to document the plutonium production facilities at the Hanford Site. Through this project, the roles that these facilities played in World War II and the Cold War Era, together with the perspectives of the people who worked there have been documented. The aim of this book is to preserve in words, diagrams and photographs, the Manhattan Project and Cold War facilities at the Hanford site (1943£150;1990, as most of these facilities have, or will be, demolished. |
