These are selections from the Historic American Engineering Record. It focuses on the documentation of historic sites and structures related to the 19th century. As well as the obvious great civil engineering works, such as the Brooklyn Bridge (1869-83), the Lowell textile mills (~1865), and the Erie canal (~1859), less obvious industrial and technological feats are included such as: textile, iron and steel, and wind mills; public works such as water-treatment, irrigation, and hydro-electric generation, and the canal, railroad and highway infrastructure that knit the country together. |
