The 21 chapters from scientists from throughout the world are the result of a symposium held in Lucknow in 1997. They include research and development in areas of plant technology that include plant genomes, hormonal and chemical signalling in plants, and transgenic plants. The nine chapters on plant genomes cover subjects such as: the import and editing of plant mitochondrial transfer RNAs; and the mitochondrial genome; and the application of molecular sequences and DNA profiles for taxonomy and phylogenetics of plants. The section on chemical signalling includes chapters on: the interaction of polyamines and ethylene and plant growth; differential regulation of ACC synthase isozymes; and the mechanisms that regulate abscission. The last section looks at insecticidal transgenic plants; grass pollen allergens; and the transformation of a recalcitrant species – sunflowers; amongst others. |
