This student textbook deals with the handling and transportation of incompressible fluids, with emphasis on the suspension of particulate solids. Both settling slurries and dense suspensions are considered. Computer-oriented methods are emphasized throughout and, where appropriate, time-consuming or tedious programs are pre-programmed and can be found in the computational toolbox on the CD-ROM. There are chapters on: the flow of fluids in piped systems; the interaction between fluids and particles; the transportation of slurries; non-Newtonian slurries; and sedimentation and thickening. |
