This textbook aims to cover all aspects of sedimentology and tries to balance the theoretical concepts based on the physics, chemistry and the environmental factors, with data from outcrops, cores, well logging and seismic lines. It begins by explaining the conditions of sedimentation the Earth’s surface. It goes on to give the theory (sediment transport, deposition, precipitation, diagenesis). Finally, the study of sedimentary systems and the role of global controls on the architecture of the sequences are described. |
