Stories of attempts to reproduce natural instances date back to antiquity. Man, in designing and building objects, machines, and processes is often motivate by a desire to imitate or control natural events. This book examines and outlines some fundamental aspects of the technology of the artificial, as opposed to conventional technology, and studies the logic behind attempts to design an artificial object. The author concentrates on the field of activities that is based on a general imitation ‘instinct’, the reproduction of something that exists in nature, and whose reproduction man considers to be useful, interesting or appealing. |
