Screening and screen handling at wastewater treatment plants is one of the labour-intensive processes at the plant. Screening and floatable controls are used at wastewater treatment, sanitary sewer overflow, and combined sewer overflow locations to remove visible inorganic and non-biodegradable organic material from further treatment processes or discharge. This Water Environment Research Foundation report identifies and critically reviews current knowledge and recommends future directions for developing reliable and functional designs for wastewater and combined sewer overflow screening, floatable control, and screen handling devices. It gives a review of the current literature and equipment and looks at selected sites. Also included is a manufacturers’ database of screens, details of a screen selector program, and site review reports. |
